A small George V silver hip flask, the screw top with engine turning fitted to the rectangular flask with a patterned engine turned surface to each side and a plain border. London 1914 by John Collard Vickery. The firm of J C Vickery began in the late 1880’s when Vickery and his partner Arthur Thomas Hobbs bought out the business of William Griggs, a long established bookseller and stationer with premises at 183 Regent Street. The partnership expanded the business’s scope to include silver and gold artefacts, as well as jewellery and dressing cases. Working alone from 1891 onwards, Vickery expanded the business into No’s 179 and 181 Regent Street, and added a showroom at 1 New Burlington Place. The business, which reached the height of its success before the First World War, was acquired by the firm of James Walker Ltd in 1930. At its height, J C Vickery held a number of Royal Warrants, including that of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, as well as those of the King of Portugal, the King of Spain, the King of Sweden, the King and Queen of Denmark and Queen Maud of Norway, among others. Condition: Perfect, the flask is in excellent condition with no damage or blemishes. The cover fits tightly and the hallmarks are clear and legible.
