A George III silver milk jug, the helmet shaped jug with a plain squared off handle to a reeded edge and raised spout, with a central band of lightly scored Greek Key pattern over a half fluted lower half, and with at each end chased scrolled and foliate decoration, incorporating a vacant cartouche. Exeter circa 1797 by William Welch II. Condition: Overall very good, the jug is in very good condition with no damage, nor splits or holes, the decoration is in good condition with wear consistent with age, the marks are reasonably clear and legible, although the city mark and date letter are obscured or were never struck. Overall the jug has a pleasing colour and appearance with elegant proportions. The dating has been ascertained by virtue of the duty mark, which has the double indentations used solely in 1797.
