A mid 19th century small Barbizon school oil painting on canvas in the style of Corot, of a figure sitting on a rock by a roadside in a scrubby landscape, with other larger rocks, trees and with a background of a distant horizon with trees under a cloudy sky, signed indistinctly lower right and presented in a large and richly carved Barbizon style gilt frame. French, circa 1860. Canvas size: 24 x 31.75 cm (9.5″ x 12.5″) Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in very good condition with no damage to either canvas, paint or frame, there are a couple of old patches on the back but the canvas is in good order, the frame is a later replacement but a well made example in the right style, and overall the painting has great presence and makes a big impact.
