A large early 19th century oil painting on canvas, of British ships after a naval battle depicting a French and a British warship engaging with each other in the left foreground on a choppy sea, with lifeboats rescuing mariners to a British warship in the right, foreground, and with more warships in the background, under a partly cloudy sky, English, circa 1820, and in a contemporary swept and fluted frame with a leaf and dart border. Canvas size: 45 x 62 cm (c. 18” x 24”) Condition: Excellent, the painting is in very good condition and has recently been relined and cleaned, and the frame has been restored.
