A charming early Victorian watercolour, the small painting of a castle standing in a wooded landscape with cottages at its foot, a small bridge over a stream, and trees, the building with many windows and with a Gothic appearance, in a narrow off-white mount with a gilt slip and framed in an elaborate giltwood frame, probably English, circa 1840. Image size: 10.5 x 16.5 cm (4.5” x 6.5″) Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in excellent condition with no foxing or apparent discolouration, the mount and slip are later, the frame is in good condition with a few losses to the gilding around the bottom right hand corner.
