A small early 19th century English landscape painting in oils on a wooden panel, depicting a rural setting with a man fishing in a stream with a lady standing watching him and with a jug and basket near her, with a background of trees and shrubs and a cottage partly visible to the upper right, all under a blue sky, and framed in a period giltwood slip within a frame with a beaded border and a gadroon edge. Bearing a colourman’s label to the back of (Thomas) Brown, with a palette and brushes, loss to the lower right hand corner. English, circa 1830. Image size: 16.5 x 23 cm (6.5” x 9”) Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in very good condition with no paint loss or damage, the frame is in good condition with minor losses, and overall the painting has a charming appearance. Thomas Brown’s will was published in 1840, he was a supplier of painting materials and this suggests that the label on the back of the panel is his.
