A pair of mid 19th century bronze decorative ewers after the originals of 1757 by Jean-Michel Claudion, each of neoclassical form representing water and wine, with one bearing a wreathed figure of Bacchus as a Satyr mounted between the handle and spout, with a goat’s mask to the front and with trailing and fruiting vines around the body, the other with a wreathed figure of Neptune as a merman and with a whale’s mask to the front, and with swags of seaweed, each on a fluted foot mounted onto a square base. French, circa 1870. Provenance: The collection of the late Sir Nigel Broackes, Kt (1934-1999). Condition: Overall very good, both pieces are all present with no damage or repairs, the casting is of excellent quality, they have a good patina and colour with some light marks consistent with age. Height = 45 cm (17.5”)
