19th Century Signed Laver Kirman Carpet. This beautiful 19th Century work, bearing the signature of one of the master weavers of its era, indicating it must have been a special commission, likely for someone of title – the piece predates the widespread commercialization of Persian carpet production, and so has the character of earlier 18th Century pieces in its design, which features a series of scrolling floral and vegetal motifs, framed by a tasteful border. The artist has employed an open composition, as opposed to the conventional central medallion layout, which, combined with its muted palette, lends the carpet a sense of balance and grace. A stunning example, this piece is in remarkably good condition for everyday use considering its era, still retaining its original outer borders on all sides, with a charming age-related patina. With its understated elegance, this carpet would make a welcome addition to any setting. Persia, circa 1890 3.44 x 2.70 metres Read more
