Description A striking custom tile panel featuring a heraldic coat of arms, salvaged from above the master bedroom fireplace at Windsor House (“Castle Above the Clouds”) on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Composed of individual tiles forming a unified crest, the design features two unicorns as heraldic supporters, flanking a central shield beneath a crown, with elaborate scrolling mantling above. The palette of deep red, black, soft green, and muted metallic tones retains traces of its original gold and silver leafed detailing, giving the piece a rich, dimensional quality. A banner at the base bears the inscription “Je me fie en Dieu” (French for “I trust in God”), reinforcing the European heraldic influence that inspired the home’s interiors. Windsor House, built in the 1930s for George and Elizabeth Scholze, is a rare Spanish Revival estate known for its extensive custom tilework and richly detailed architectural elements. This panel served as a focal point above the master bedroom fireplace, anchoring the room with a bold, symbolic centerpiece. Now presented as a standalone diptych, it offers strong decorative presence as wall art or can be reinstalled within a new architectural setting. It is in good antique condition, and does not lay flat (as it was originally customized to be installed on a curved wall, as pictured). The left tile panel measures 8-1/4″ wide, 16-1/8″ tall, and is 1/2″ thick; the right panel is 8-1/4″ wide, 16-1/8″ tall, and is 1/2″ thick. There is existing mortar remaining on the backside that does make this piece thicker(as pictured). This piece requires a custom shipping quote, please contact us if you have any questions.
